How Fondazione PASS Became a Top 5 AI Answer for Families in Need
When a child is admitted to hospital far from home, parents increasingly ask AI where they can stay. In five months, Fondazione PASS went from absent in those answers to the top 5.

AI Summary Who. Fondazione PASS offers free accommodation and practical support to families of children receiving hospital care in Bologna. The problem. In May 2026, AI assistants did not name the foundation for any of the questions it was measured on. What was measured. Search Bridge Multi-Signal Intelligence: Deep Tracking, Competitive Tracking across 5 Italian intents on OpenAI, Google and Perplexity, and Technical Tracking of the foundation's website. The result. On its core intent, Fondazione PASS rose from 48th to 5th. Its share of AI Visibility grew from 0% to 4.34%. The lesson. AI visibility tends to follow digital resources, not quality of care. A focused foundation can close that gap.
When people ask AI for help
People in difficult moments now put their questions to AI. Who can help with this? Is there something free? Where do I start?
The engine answers with a short list of names.
For a company, that list shapes market share. For a foundation, it can decide whether a family finds a place to stay.
AI visibility tends to follow digital resources, not quality of care. Regional organisations compete for the same answers as national charities with full communications teams.
This is the story of a foundation that closed that gap.
About Fondazione PASS
Fondazione PASS ETS runs the Polo Accoglienza e Servizi Solidali in San Lazzaro di Savena, near Bologna. It gives free accommodation and logistical support to families of children and adolescents in hospital in the area.
Its purpose is simple. No family should have to choose between staying close to their child and being able to afford to stay.
The foundation also runs eating disorder awareness programmes, including workshops for schools and parishes. It works alongside public health and municipal institutions across Emilia-Romagna.
The starting point
Why was Fondazione PASS missing from AI answers?
A parent whose child has just been admitted to hospital in another city does not run a careful search. They ask one direct question, often on a phone, often at night.
In May 2026, AI assistants answering that question did not name Fondazione PASS. It had 0 citations, a 0% share of AI Visibility, and ranked 48th on the intent that matches its core service.
Deep Tracking found a second problem underneath. Fondazione PASS wasn't just invisible to AI. It was being misrepresented by it.
Across 18 sources, AI answers warned users to check they had the right organisation, because unrelated entities share the PASS name. For a parent already under strain, a warning like that is a reason to look elsewhere.
What Search Bridge measured
How was Fondazione PASS tracked?
Weekly tracking began on 8 March 2026, with three layers of Multi-Signal Intelligence working together.
- Deep Tracking ran the Brand Perception Module across 6 core KPIs, to explain why AI describes the foundation as it does.
- Competitive Tracking measured 5 Italian intents on OpenAI, Google and Perplexity, against 12 comparable organisations.
- Technical Tracking checked whether AI systems could reach, read and understand fondazionepass.it.
The 5 intents tracked:
- Free accommodation and support for families of hospitalised children in Bologna
- Corporate partnerships on eating disorder awareness
- Volunteering with families and adolescents in Bologna
- Eating disorder workshops for schools and parishes in Emilia-Romagna
- 5x1000 donations to organisations supporting families of hospitalised children
What the foundation did
Each layer explained part of the picture.
Competitive Tracking showed the gap. Other organisations were named again and again for the foundation's own core need.
Technical Tracking showed one cause. With a Discoverability score of 43 out of 100, AI systems struggled to read the site.
Deep Tracking showed the other. AI was unsure which PASS it was describing.
That set the priorities: a site AI can read, a clear identity, and recognition from the institutions AI already trusts in this field.
Which Activations did Fondazione PASS implement?
Search Bridge generated 26 Activations, ranked by expected impact. Between July and early October, the foundation implemented 10, with 4 more under way.
The first one it completed was built for families in urgent need. An "AIUTO ORA" emergency page, with a phone number, a short form and clear steps to get help.
The rest followed in four groups:
- A site AI can read. FAQ structured data on the accommodation page, plus clear titles and descriptions on the main pages.
- A clear identity. The "Chi siamo" and "Cosa facciamo" pages were rewritten to describe precisely who the foundation is and what it does.
- Institutional recognition. Listing requests to AUSL Bologna, Comune di Bologna and CSV Emilia-Romagna, plus a partnership proposal to the municipality.
- Paths for donors and partners. New pages for 5x1000 donations in Emilia-Romagna, for companies, and on transparency and impact.
Results
What changed between May and October 2026
On its core intent, Fondazione PASS rose from 48th to 5th. Its share of AI Visibility went from 0% to 4.34%, with 7 citations.
When AI names Fondazione PASS, it names it near the top.
Its average position in the answer is 2.6. That is higher than three of the four organisations ranked above it on share.
Across all 5 intents, the foundation climbed from 221st to 20th in the Italian leaderboard. Its citations went from 0 to 8.
Visibility came through all three AI ecosystems. OpenAI gave the strongest share and Perplexity the most citations. On Google Gemini, its citation ranked first in the answer.
Technical Discoverability doubled, from 43 to 86.
The gains came on the question closest to the foundation's daily work. The four broader intents, from corporate partnerships to national donations, are the next ground to cover.

In their words
“The methodological approach that Search Bridge introduced to us has been fundamental in guiding our entire team towards a mindset that is open to using AI as a practical tool in support of our charitable mission. The Search Bridge team did not simply accompany us in understanding AI dynamics; they proved to be curious, reliable and patient partners, helping us explore how technology can strengthen our ability to support families when they need it most.”
— Alessandro Arcidiacono, Presidente, Fondazione PASS ETS
Lessons for other organisations
Start with the question closest to your mission. Fondazione PASS's gains came on the intent that matches its core service. Focus beat breadth.
Make sure AI knows exactly who you are. If AI has to warn users they may have the wrong organisation, trust drops before anyone reads your page.
Borrow trust from institutions. Where public bodies are the trusted sources, a listing on their pages can matter more than another page on yours.
Measure before you act. The May baseline is what makes every number in this story provable.
Why this matters beyond one foundation
AI assistants are becoming a way into social services. That layer is being shaped now, mostly by organisations with the resources to shape it.
If the organisations doing the best are the hardest for AI to read, people in need get pointed to whoever communicates best. Not to whoever helps most.
Fondazione PASS shows the gap can close. In five months, a regional foundation became one of the top 5 names AI gives families looking for help in Bologna.
